What happens to all of the new cars each year that don't sell at the dealerships?

I am curious. I see all these new cars sitting around every year and then they are gone and new ones are brought in, what happened to all the ones from previous years?

At the end of the year they mark them down and try to sell them. That is the best time to buy a car.
