I quit smoking like a year ago and for some reason I still obsess over it. It's like I feel I can't be as happy being a non-smoker. yet, I know that I wanted to quit for a reason. I really enjoy having more energy and actually being able to jog. I still feel kinda depressed sometimes though about not smoking. I even have Allen Caar's "The Easy way to stop smoking" and it helps alot and even explains that smokers don't enjoy cigarettes. They just smoke to relieve withdrawl from nicotine. So do cigarettes kind of work as a placebo or what? Am I just gonna be miserable either way? Non-smoker or smoker.

Congratulations on being able to quit!!! I have tried everything, and if I stay busy enough I can go most of the day with only a few but I make up for most of it later! I sometimes smoke 3 packs a day(ouch!) The cold hard truth with me is that I REALLY LOVE to smoke! It's not just the nicotine or the habit... I so enjoy the aroma and taste! I don't like that I can't run like I did in high school on the track team but there's pro and cons to everything! Besides my health, I would never consider quiting. For that matter if I didn't have to sleep or eat to live well I wouldn't either but I guess nobody has come up with a "cure" for all these inconveniences yet so I shall continue eating, sleeping and trying to quit the nasty habit before I get lung cancer!

Smoking was a very big part of your life. It is not just the fact that you are not smoking.

Your pockets do not hold cigarettes or lighter. When you were a smoker that would have worried you wouldn't it? There is probably an element of this "missing something" at work here.

At particular times it felt really good to have a cigarette didn't it? After a meal say, or coming out of the cinema.

These feelings will fade but if you identify them and put them behind you it should go a bit quicker.

How about exercising more? Or occupying your mind with something productive or with hobbies so that you won't have much time to think over smoking. Smoking is an addiction, and I sympathise with you that you still have a little withdrawal symptoms after one year.
Are there any support groups fashioned something like "Alcoholics Anonyomous" in your community and is for ex-smokers? You may like to join such groups.
Depression can be reduced by prayer, interacting with friends who are optimistic, starting each day by saying "This is a beautiful day, and I am starting it positive and right and cheerful." Sometimes, it is our mindset. Count our blessings. Millions of people in Africa and Asia do not even have sanitation and proper food.
How about volunteering your free time so that you find something meaningful to do? And stay away from shops that sell cigarettes or have cigarette ads.
Cheers!

Stay away from smoking.

I smoke about 40 cigs a day and would give anything to quit. It's become more of a nervous habit for me and the slightest anxiety draws me to smoking. I feel week and lousy though still can't quit.

I had quit a number of years back. that time too I was a chain smoker though managed to quit overnight and stay away from smoking a number of years. Though now that I have started again, am finding it all the more difficult to quit.

You'll only make one of your lifes biggest blunders if you start smoking.

miserable, no my dear you already have concurred More than half the battle usually when you leave any habit it is bound to pull back even after year or years what i suggest you simply do not invest much of your emotion and thoughts on this kind of feeling as these feeling comes and stay for while and go but your life is what you which stays with you shoud't see it as an defeat rather see this a ladder which is their to step above and leave past behind .

suggestion which should work while you get pulled = take a deep breath.and let go

Wow sometimes you still get cravings but they go away usually. Just don't start again. Be strong. The second time you might not be able to quit. Change your routine again. Do things a little differently once in a while. And see if that helps.

No. I think when you get used to be a non smoker you will be much happier and relieved. But you have to try hard and not start smoking again.

the craving for nicotine that makes you want a smoke can be overcome by sucking on an orange....

I have found that by sucking directly on the orange you know like kids do.... some how relieves the craving and is much better for you..
