A first interview is designed to screen out applicants and narrow down the prospects to a more manageable number.

The second interview is designed to further narrow this down to find out who really is right for the job. The questions are generally more tailored to that particular job, and/or you may be meeting with people you'd encounter on the job should you get it.

having hired a few ppl, it is easy to go thru so many ppl who seem to meet the bill. some ppl are nervous in job interviews. once they get that 2nd call back they get elated and relaxed become more comfortable. if it comes down to 5, which was my fav number of similar best fo the best after that id go for personality.
