LPG is better. LPG is stored as a fuel at much lower pressure than CNG, which requires 200 bars pressure to be converted into liquid. Storage is always more problem with CNG and the amount of fuel stored in equal volume is more for LPG. Thermal output is also more for LPG. However, contrary to what someone pointed out, LPG is not free from sulphurs completely. Both the gases are by themselves odourless. Artificial odour is added to them to allow detection of leakage by adding a mpound known as Mercaptor which gives out that typical stink.

CNG is 95% methane and 5% ethane, where as LPG conists largely of Butane and Propane, with smaller quantities of Methane and Ethane.

In a car, LPG gives better performance.

LPG has more energy because it has heavier hydrocarbons like propane and butane so it should have better performance. Either one will probably cause less wear than a liquid fuel like gasoline because both are much more pure- no sulfur or other dissolved stuff. CNG is methane. Since they are gaseous they are probably less likely to dissolve lubricating oil from surfaces in the combustion chamber. They both leave less carbon behind than gasoline, and the carbon is abrasive.

CNG has better thermal effeciency than LPG
Does not ignite easily wheareas LPG does
CNG is odourless
There is hardly any difference in wear & tear
Does not effect engine life

lower performance and valve seat wear as the gasses run hotter than petrol ( normal engines have about 2mm seat width and 'gas' engines have about 4mm)
