In spite of all the techological advancements made by human beings, why is that we still have to depend on gas/petrol or diesel to run our cars?Has no body invented a car that runs on water (H2O) instead of gas? If we have cars that run on water, then we don't have to worry about d soaring price of gas and petro products.

"A forgotten patent !
You will find here the exact transcript of the 30 June 1982 European patent Publication N° 0055134A1 allowing a car effectively running on water and little aluminum ( I Gk. at 1$ for 400 miles ) without any pollution whatsoever."

There are patents of it on the Internet but the bottom line is that its is just very unrealistic. Water in its normal state can not create a combustion to power the engine.

The molecule of the water would have to be split into hydrogen and oxygen. the kind of energy it would take to split the molecules would be massive. It would have to safely split them and do it with tremendous speed to keep up with the engine. our cars would have to get bigger to contain this molecule splitting device and the price of them would go sky high.

The bottom line is that there really is no such thing as free energy but if gas prices are getting you down there is one way to beat it. Diesel cars can run on ordinary used grease from restaurants. it just has to be filtered with a paper filter. you would have to clean your injectors every month or so but it still would cost less then a month of gas

There was research done in the early 1930 and 40's in which it was proven to be hazardous. A vehicle running on water would require you separate the Hydrogen from the water, it would be very dangerous. So it was never explored for years until recently - but even now it is too costly and years from ever being available. We can make Bio Diesel from used oil products, it is cheap, easy to use and available.

An engine that runs on H2O has alredy been invented years ago. The guy that made it just kind of disappeared from the face of the Earth( if u know what i mean). The arabs finance most of this country. The govt doesn't like people messing with their best interests! U do the math!

I just watched a show on that very subject yesterday on PBS that it IS invented, and tested, lets hope that this guy isn't killed like the last guy was when HE threatened the Oil business. Gore was on Jay Leno last night, and even mentioned it. Steam powered cars were actually available 30 years ago, but big business has defeated and snuffed out any small businessman that dared try it, most of them died at a very young age.

You're argument makes total sense. Economically speaking, when the price of one resource increases (oil), then the incentive to find a cheaper alternative (H20) is enhanced. Yet, it seems that new innovations are lacking. My theory, oil companies are exercising significant pressure to hinder the emergence of these new technologies. Oil companies (Shell, Exxon, Mobil, possibly OPEC) know that if an alternative to oil is created, the demand for oil would decline, and so would price; hence, their profits.

ok how does a car run? on petrol how? because it heats up with the ignition spark creating an exothermic reaction which provides the energy for a car to run. Water doesn't heat up so quickly, nor does it create any exothermic reaction because it's neutral. Water doesn't provide any energy at all for the car to run, whatsoever.

I vaguely remember that there was a steam car invented many years ago by someone called Pritchard.

Alternative fuels are probably being suppressed by fuel companies, not in their interests.

Here in Australia, water is as precious a material as fuel, so probably wouldn't work anyway..........
