my teacher taught us... mommy made me mash my m&ms.... if that helps!!! also say the alphabet and gradually increase in speed!!!! also before singing the lyrics to a song... speak the words as if u were about to sing them... so speak in the note pitches. if that makes sense...!!! also... very important... practice your breathing... w/ your diaphragm.. this is essential!!! :D

Do breathing exercises. Sing the alphabet in a monotone, equal treatment for each character (that is, equal duration) and try to finish the alphabet before you breathe. Of course, this is nearly impossible but i've known people who can do this. Don't cheat, each letter should have at least two counts to it.

To ensure that your voice is coming from your diaphragm, try doing your vocal exercises while lying down.

Also while doing your vocal exercises, start from the lower tones and go up the scales gradually. Then vice versa. You should let your voice circulate (from throat to head then back down and out the mouth). Wneh you feel the vibrations at the top of your head when you are vocalizing, you are succeeding. Doing this ensures that your voice sounds much fuller and resonant.

These days you can learn how to sing over the internet. Check out Aaron Anastasi's singing video lessons here: http://www.voicevideolessons.com The videos are very easy to follow and to my surprise extremely helpful even for advanced singers. For beginners I would have to say this is a gold mine. I was able to improve my singing, voice tone and range in just under two weeks and I am an advanced musician, been doing this for the last 13 years.

I live in New York City, I wanted to go to a singing teacher but that would have cost me over $1400 per month. Good thing with this internet, $1400 it's a lot of money for me.
