Beckham was nothing more than a poster-boy for England and was never an influential leader. England should consider experienced leaders such as Terry, Gerrard or Neville (although my first pick would be Terry) who are captains for their local clubs. It was the right decision for Beckham if England are to move forward. In saying that, Beckham set-piece skill is what got an overrated England through to the quarter finals.

Well for the selectors point of view it was necessary. And recently he was not in the form he used to be. In major games England were losing and naturally the blame falls on the captain. All these factors form major drawbacks.
But i think as a player he has been performing well and that too if a chance has been provided to him he would prove his worth. But since he himself took the decision, nothing much can be done.
Anyways he would still be present in the team as a player. Since the burden of captainy is removed he would be able to play more freely and one can expect the unexpected from this player.
All in all it was a right decision by David Beckham.

Yes, because it was really what he wanted...altho I am sure it was very difficult. He did say he had planned to resign even befor the World Cup. He was a good captain and did the job well but time to give someone else a chance.

It does not matter if we agree or disagree with Davids decision to resign as Englands Captain, he alone can make that decision, all we can do is support his decision, and hope he continues to play on our squad as I believe we need him. Can I just add Stevie Gerrard should be our new CAPTAIN, thanxs

Yes it was the right decision. In fact, he made that decision about five and a half year to late!
