If a father does the same it's called kidnap. why the double standard? Are men really such second class citizens?

Regardless of the sex of the parent taking the child they can be arrested for kidnapping if the other parent takes legal action. Keep in mind there are loopholes but they work for either sex. I have seen plenty of missing posters where the last person the kid was seen with was his mother and they are wanted to kidnapping. Maybe it has just been your experience that you have heard more about fathers in trouble.

indeed in child custody battles the woman often fairs better than the man in terms of who is granted custody rights. However, the issue of a woman stealing a child that is not their own, well I hate to tell you, that is kidnapping. Ask any law enforcement agent about this one and you will get the same response
