I know that Rumania was a part of the Ottoman Empire for quite some time, then it was "parted out" between the Austrian, Ottoman and Russian Empires...In the 19th century, they sided with Russia in the Russo-Turkish war in order to obtain independance from the Ottomans, but it kind of backfired because Russia wanted part of their land to be devoted to Bulgaria. During WWI they joined with Russia again to reclaim their land that was under Austrian control...they succeeded there, and took their land back from Russia. They switched sides and allied with Germany during WWII because their land was being occupied, yet again, by Russia, Bulgaria and Hungary...but switched back to being allies with Russia before the war was over...thus leading them to become a communist nation. From the 60s to 1989, they were governed by a dictator, Nicolae Ceauşescu who caused a great national debt for Romania, and left the vast majority impoverished...he was over thrown and executed in 1989 during the Romanian Revolution...they have been recovering economically and becoming more democratic ever since...Plus, they have some of the most beautiful gothic architecture and breathtaking mountains!

Its spelled R-o-m-a-n-i-a and is in Europe. It has a decent football (soccer) team. What do you call people from Romania, Romanians? And what do they speak, some form of Russian or something? Dont mean to offend anyone, just curious.
