Because, the human brain likes to dump things into categories so that things can be understood a bit more easily. It is like counting by twos, etc. The human bring does not do well with chaos and needs order.

Some people actually believe the world is a grocery store and each road is an aisle, and we of course, are nothing but a can of goods without a label rolling around, thus they think by labeling someone they can organize the shelves, keep things in order and where they "belong".

Being emo doesn't mean you're unhappy. It just means you're emotional.
I listen to emo music (like Dashboard Confessional), and it's not about being miserable.
