That's mostly just due to the hormonal changes in your body, causing those cravings. Try taking fruits like apples and pears to fix those cravings, instead of giving in, and bingeing on fast-releasing carbs, such as chips and white breads. These fast-releasing carbs do make you feel better initially, but their effects only last 1/2 hour or so. After which, your mood takes a drastic downward dive again, and the cravings will return once more.
A couple of pieces of dark chocolates and a small cup of ice-cream is fine per day. Other than that, when the cravings come, drink a large glass of water and wait 15 minutes. Sometimes, it may be because you're dehydrated. Most times, the cravings will pass after a few minutes. If you still crave carbs, take fruits instead. You can make the fruits more yummy by cutting them into bite-size pieces, and popping them into the freezer, and taking them out to eat when the cravings hit. Good options are bananas, pineapples, watermelons, honey dews, apples, and papayas. Alternatively, you can juice the fruits, and make them into popsicles without any added sugar......just make sure you include the pulp for added fibre.
Other good snack options are unsalted, unsweetened, and unroasted nuts such as macademia and cashew. Most commercially roasted nuts have oil sprayed on them during the roasting process. You can buy raw ones from the supermarkets and roast them yourself at home.
These snacks are a much healthier options, and won't give you the yo-yo mood swings you experience with chips.

For now you should give in (your brain runs on glucose) but keep trying to get to the root of the cravings. If it is possible, use carbs which are as low as possible on the glycemic index. Don't recall offhand but I think oats are good.

Just because they (the period cravings) are popular doesn't mean that everyone else is doing the right thing. Do a google groups search including the key words of cravings, period then adding in succession: stopped or deficiency or reduced or eliminated. Or something similar.

Go ahead and give in but, sparingly. If it's sweet you are craving, try fresh fruit or non-fat frozen yogurt or sorbet instead of candy or other refined sugars. If you want salty and crunchy, have some air popped corn with REAL butter. And as always, if you just can't stand it, have some dark chocolate. A square or to will do ya fine. Cuz every girl knows chocolate solves all woes right? hahaha

I do! I think our body just needs it. Besides, the craving and the extra weight goes away as soon as my period is over. For me, it's my sign that my period is coming!
