these complexes are formed due to splliting of "d orbital" d orbital splits into "eg and t2g orbitals" t2g orbital consist of d(x^2-y^2) and dz^2 orbital and eg orbital consists of dx,dy,dz orbitals .the difference in energy of these orbital is very less in case of octahedral complexes the field is high which causes pairing of electrons in eg orbital hence forming a low spin complex
