It depends on the species, but most critters get pregnant through internal fertilization. In mammals and many reptiles, the male has a penis that is used to deposit sperm in a female host. That, in turn, creates an embryo that either stays in the body until birth (ie: Like in humans, whales, horses, dogs, etc), or they leave the body in a special holding container -aka an 'egg'. Birds are the one creature where all species lay eggs. Some reptiles and fish will give birth to live young rather than lay eggs. There's two mammals that will lay eggs.

Amphibians and some ocean creatures like barnacles, will lay their eggs and the male will release sperm separately. This is called external fertilization. The female never lays eggs, never gets pregnant and the male doesn't have to deposit sperm inside the female. The eggs are fertilized while floating in the water and the embryo either attaches itself to a surface or it forms a special sack that protects it from being eaten.

Pretty much the same way as people do. Tab A in Slot B. Female gets knocked up and delivers puppies/kittens/etc a specific amount of time later.

That's mammals anyway.

Birds and lizards and snakes and fish are all strange perverted creatures, have to do things DIFFERENTLY (fertilizing eggs that then have to be laid rather than borne, lay the eggs then have the male fertilize them, etc).

To steal a line from a song, "Let me tell you about the birds and the bees/The flowers and the trees."

In reality, animals have sex.

Or, if you want to go all cartoony, a stork brings the baby to them.

By the way, why is sex talk called the birds and the bees? What the hell! It must be terrible for the kid when you explain sex to him. Because it's hard enough for him to have to understand sex, and yet he has to process it through interspecie nookie? What the hell!

Biological reproduction is the biological process by which new individual organisms are produced. Reproduction is a fundamental feature of all known life; each individual organism exists as the result of reproduction by an antecedent. The known methods of reproduction are broadly grouped into two main types: sexual and asexual reproduction.

In asexual reproduction, an individual can reproduce without involvement with another individual of that species. The division of a bacterial cell into two daughter cells is an example of asexual reproduction. Asexual reproduction is not, however, limited to single-celled organisms. Most plants have the ability to reproduce asexually.

Sexual reproduction requires the involvement of two individuals, typically one of each sex. Normal human reproduction is a common example of sexual reproduction. In general, more-complex organisms reproduce sexually while simpler, usually unicellular, organisms reproduce asexually.
