This is the story.. I went out last night to pick up some food from a fast food place. As I was pulling out and going onto the road, I didn't notice that one of the lanes was merged into another lane due to construction (it was dark and rainy).

A car on the road almost hit me, and it stopped abruptly and thankfully didn't. However this driver was apparently infuriated that I didn't notice him and almost caused an accident. He starts honking at me, over and over. He's behind me on the road, and follows me, turning on his blinders, on and off and on and off. Making it incredibly hard to see. I'm starting to get mad, and I pull over to let him go around me.

He drives around my car, stops in front of me, gets out of his car and starts to beat on mine real angrily. I just bolted out around him and got as far away as I could.

Now my question is.. did I do the right thing? I've been a little on edge ever since and it kind of scares me that I could find myself in that situation.

Yikes! I'm glad nothing worse happened. Next time, don't pull over but drive to the nearest police station if you know where it is, or somewhere you know is safe like a hospital or a fire station, heck, even a bus station if there's a lot of people around and by parking would make it less likely for them to attempt something like that. If it's any consolation, I've had similar things happen like that, once on a highway onramp merge lane. Took a long of wondering what the heck did I do and analyzing before I realized that it wasn't me, it was a person with road rage and I was the last straw so to speak.

People can get really mad about this stuff I saw this thing on tv that said that it's they have a diagnose for it, I don't remember what it was called but that people can even kill because of it....you should just made sure that your window is closed and when you decide to pull over if they come out of there car just drive off...no point in dying for something so stupid as this....you did the right thing and just be careful next time, it's hard when other people don't consider what's going on with the other person....

I think you did the right thing at the time, given the intensity of the situation. When you get scared or nervous, its sometimes difficult to put together a strategy on the spur of the moment. Sure, you could have gotten his license plate number, or even run him over, but who wants to deal with all that drama.

People are nuts these days. You did best, just exiting what could have been a very hostile and scary ordeal.

Yes, absolutely. Sorry he is going to have a heart attack. Yes you almost caused an accident. Learn from it and move on.
