There was an 8 year old black girl who was kidnapped around the same time Elizabeth Smart was. The 8 year old chewed her way out of the ropes and made and it back home. It's sad how this little girl did not get as much media attention as Elzabeth Smart. This little girl actually had more reasoning skills and bravery than Smart ( a teenager). It's really sad because I don't even know this little girl's name, but if I did, I would certainly laud her (for she is the one who's actually SMART). I'm not trying to sound mean, but Smart was on Oprah and several other shows getting attention; whereas this gallant little black girl received none. Just another sign of how racist the media is. Black kidnappings receive little or no attention; however, if a white person is kidnapped, it's going to be on the 12, 5, 6, and 10 o'clock news as well as on CNN, Newsweek, and etc. When will America change its ways?

I know, there was also a 4 year old black girl who went missing at the exact same time, all she got was a tiny square inch mention on the bottom of a page in the middle of a news paper. I think she died but there was no follow up to the story. Maybe it was because Elizabeth was rich and white and such a rarity for someone to go missing in her community (like every ones obsession with Jon Benet Ramsey) and the little black girl was from a poor black crime riddled neighborhood. No matter what the reason it sucks!

how come the media only focuses on the abduction of rich people? Smart wasnt' the only white girl to be abducted at the time. I wasn't sure if you knew that or not

I agree. It should have recieved equal media attention.

But, children are kidnapped everyday and we don't hear about it. why? because it would not make a good story. Smart's story was good for tv, and so she got more attention.

I heard of the Black girl who found her way home by outsmarting her kiddnappers. I didn't understand why the media didn't cover her story. But whenever a white girl goes missing the whole world goes looking for her?

The last time the media made a big deal over a black girl that had been abducted and raped (by white men , of course), it turned out the little tramp had spent the night with her (also black) boyfriend and was afraid her daddy would kick her asss.

The black community never gave me , and every other white man, an apology , either.
