I assume you're referring to the fact that a certain species of Japanese-located crabs developed unique features on its shell that looked strangely like a samurai warrior.

As Carl Sagan noted in his discussion of the subject in the film "Cosmos,", a Japanese legend tells of a battle that took place in ages past - a battle in which one side determined that they couldn't possibly win - an as such, they chose to drown themselves in the sea, rather than face defeat at the hands of the enemy.

After the battle, life went on as usual. But after a fair amount of time, fishermen in the area began to notice something unusual. Crabs in the area began to take on unusual patterns on their shells. In an almost bizarre turn of events, the patterns in the backs of such Japanese crabs looked kind of human to the fisherman. In fact, some of them looked so human that the fishermen threw them back into the sea, in order to honor the memory of those that had faught in the battle so long ago.

In a strange turn of events, those Japanese crabs with shells that looked most like samurai warriors, those that were thrown back into the sea rather than eaten, thrived. And bred.

And as it turns out, today if you should see a crab of this particular species, chances are you will notice a very human, Japanese face on the backs of those crabs - because evolution - in this case in concert with human developement - decided that crabs in that area that look most like humans will survive, while those who don't will be eaten.

That, in the end, is what evolution is all about. Find a way for the bloodline to survive. Nothing else mattters. That is also why evolution is a fact, not a theory.

Probably because the conditions for plentiful multiplication of the species are ideal there. And knowing the brilliant Japanese people, they keep it that way, and even nurture it along, taking pains and making efforts to insure the best environments.
