Cosmic background radiation is the biggest proof. It was predicted by early big bang theorists and then observed by later astronomers. Most astronomers believe the debate is over.
Three excellent reasons exist for believing in the big-bang theory. First, and most obvious, the universe is expanding, ie, galaxies getting further from a center and others getting closer to us as THEY expand from a center (a red shift occurrence-i haven't read anything about a blue shift?).
Second, the theory predicts that 25 percent of the total mass of the universe should be the helium that formed during the first few minutes, an amount that agrees with observations.
Finally, and most convincing (as stated above), is the presence of the cosmic background radiation. The big-bang theory predicted this remnant radiation, which now glows at a temperature just 3 degrees above absolute zero, well before radio astronomers chanced upon it.

Because everything, on large scales, is moving away from everything else, so you get a redshift. That doesn't mean we don't detect blueshift. A galaxy turns and the edge that's turning towards us is definitely blue shifted, while the opposite edge is turning away from us, and it is redshifted. But way out there, 100s of millions or billions of light years away, the stuff expanding in true "Hubble Flow" is red shifted. That is your proof of the Big Bang Theory. The universe cannot be stationary. It can expand or contract, but the physics equations dictate that it has to be dynamic (i.e., moving). Since redshift tells us the universe is expanding, you simply have to estimate the rate of expansion and extrapolate backwards -- currently the universe is estimated to be about 14.3 billion years old. Give or take. It definitely has to be older than 12 billion years because some stars are calculated to be at least that old.

The only proof of big bang theory is that the universe seems to expand; that there is "3 Kelvin radiation" in all directions which is predicted by that theory; and that the relation H:He atoms is in accordance with experiment.
Blue shift would indicate that things in the universe move toward each other; in an expanding universe, they move away from each other, which comes with red shift.

I have heard from a proffessor in my Earth Science class say, that there is evidence of the big bang theory in that, when the event happened, similar particles on the other planets in and around our solar system, can be dated to a single time. Also, there is cosmic radiation (background). And by using the rules of how fast light travel 186,000 mper second, one can mathematically calculate with an accurate closeness as to when our universe was created. Also, our galaxy is expanding at an exponential rate. DO I believe this? I don't know, but just thought I'd share the info. Hope this makes sense.

There are no prominent blue shifts exactly because the universe is expanding.
what we have are red shifts because as the stars and planets move away form each other... the waves of the light that they emit or reflected move farther away from each other... and like the doppler effect in sounds, as the waves move farther away from each, the frequencies decrease... we know that red has the lowest frequency in the visible spectrum of light.... so we have a a red shift... or technically a redward shift... because the light waves' frequencies shift towards the red end...
the red shift proves that the universe is expanding... and there are no prominent blue shifts because the universe expands...
this is like a whatever cycle... ^_^

no that is why it is called a theory because there are no factt, if there was fac it would be a scientific fact not a theory.
