Although there's some great ideas posted already, I would go a different route. I would install an engine that utilizes more modern technology. hmmmm a 69 camaro with a 432 CID LS2, turbo'd. Should be no reason you'd be less than 900 HP at the wheels, and it would be driveable! Plus, the LS2 is an aluminum block so you'll save on weight. That's my final answer - a 432 LS2 with 11 degree heads, an LSX intake, and a turbo. Ummmm ya may wanna think about a tranny and rear end that'll hold together!

The new 574 cubic inch Chevy crate motor. You can use the same transmission and rear end (if they are sturdy enough to handle that much torque) and it will be very simple to tune due to use of a carb. You can get it turnkey from General Motors Performance Parts and it makes more than 600 hp out of the crate. No superchargers, turbochargers, extreme compression ratios, or anything else- just good old American iron, and lots of it.

Chevy small block 400 bored over 30 thousandths making it a 406. They rock! My 84 chevy 3/4 ton has one in it and it kicks my husbands big block 468 off the starting like. Mine 406 spools up way better then that BB of his anyday! I have oval port heads and voodoo cam, rollered, edelbrock air flow intake and a 750cfm Holley carb. Its my favorite motor, I heard about it a few years back and I had to have one.

Gas mileage Straight six. Fun factor and simplicity 572 CI GM performance parts crate motor. (If you have 15g's to shell out.) Other wise The 383 is a heck of a runner.

Look at the specs on the 327cid 365 hp Corvette engine and alter a 350 to match. It'll run a hole in the wind.

(scroll down to bottom of page) 380 bhp and less than 200lbs (less than the weight of cylinder heads for a big block)
