JPG is an image file extension, which on Mac is equivalent to JPEG (but it's the same thing). A JPG image is a compressed BMP image (bitmap)! It's advisable to use JPG format for images that have more then 256 colors, because in this case the image won't come up so great... For this type of files the GIF format is recommended!
A JPM (JPEM for Mac) is a LuraDocument compressed PDF file, and is an implementation for the new JPEG2000 compression for scanned colored documents! You won't see this type very often because you'll need a license to open them (now there are freeware programs that can open this kind of files but only if the resolution is below 800*600).

Don't know about JPEM but JPEG is a a compressed graphic file.

jpeg is a type of image file format. any image with the .jpg file extension is a jpeg image, it is just a type of picture. like .bmp and .gif n stuff, just antoehr type
