Most Rap today is made by a small number of producers. Its become all cookie cutter and corporate much like metal in the 80s was. Rap used to signify the outrage of a people with different aspects of culture. It stood for something and had a message...even the funny and light hearted stuff. Now its almost all Bling and hos. With the exception of Kanye, I dont think any of it really touches the roots. Personlly I would like to see a shake up. Any thoughts?

In the mainstream media? OMG...yes!! Actually, there are still some emcees out there who don't fit the "cookie-cutter" mold and have something to say, but unfortunately we rarely (if ever) see them in the mainstream media. A lot of the real emcees are stuck in the underground circuit because for the most part, good ol' Corporate America has flooded the market with whatever makes them the most money as opposed to actual talent, variety and substance.

It would be cool if some of the old-school artists would come out of retirement in force like the Justice League and take back hip hop - lol. But I know it'll never happen. :( For now, we just have to wait for the virtual pendulum to swing in the other direction.

It depends on where you're from, back in the day rap was usually only from one place, and they were all poor, thats why they rapped like that. Nowadays blacks aren't hated like they used to be, so now they can become rich, and rap about their riches. Stop trying to put them back into a place like that.

No, rap is due for a long sleep or outright extinction. It's been fairly dull for a long time now.
