The brain identifies certain patterns which are recognized as having happened before, but cannot find a memory of it. Therefore you have the feeling of having been there but not the memory.

Deja vu is simpily an explanation for some thing that has been claimed to be experienced by one before.
e.g. you bumped into this guy and you see his picure of his daughter. Then the next day, you bump into another guy and the same thing happens

It's most definitely a theory... but here's mine...

DejaVu usually happens on a sub-conscience level (like when you are sleeping). It's a glimpse into the future from inside your own mind when you are sleeping. Now, we all know that to travel in time, we must travel faster than the speed of light... which is how fast nerve impulses move in your mind, shoot down your spine and into your nerve endings... this also happens with 'thought'... now suppose you are in a deep sleep...really deep sleep (but not dead, for obvious reasons). It may be possible for those impulses to move a bit faster than the speed of light... causing you to see your own future, but only in your mind. It's buried so deep in your mind and you only remember when a familiar sight triggers it. Pretty cool huh?

Scientifically explained.. it is your minds way of mixing up sight memories with time... making you think you've seen it before, when in actuality, you have not.

I prefer my theory over the scientific one... it requires more thinking.

Also, I do not remember the book, but I remember the line...

"Silly humans; it is you that think you must have a capsule to move through time."

Its when you feel like you've done something before or whatever is happening at the moment has already happening.

I think it happens because either you dream about whatever is happening, have thought about whatever is happening, or a very similar situation has happened that you have almost completely forgotten about.

Or it could be something more that that! I dunno I find it very interesting too! And kind of eery when I experience it!

Found a link for you (below). Personally, I think that it's a point at which an experience from one of your own parallel existences breaks through, but my ideas are usually wrong.
