1. What is the major contribution of Anthrax and the Beastie Boys?
They were the first to mix rap and metal...almost all of whats called Metal today is "new metal"..and these guys were the first to do it. Nirvana spawned grunge which brought reality back to rock and expressed how people really felt.
2. What was significant in the advent of Nirvana and the culture that they spawned?
Metal/Rock was in a corporate cookie cutter place. it was all the same old crap about parties and thats it.

anthrax and the beastie boys were the first to introduce a mix of rap and rock that was successful, after that it was actually acceptable. and nirvana cleared out the overprocessed and stale hair metal music that plagued the 80s, they paved the way for MANY other bands to be successful
