Depends on the girl, the friends she has, what stage of puberty she's in...when one girl in her age group at school or at a scheduled social activity starts, most of them will follow.

I firmly remember saying as a little girl (though I've always been widly feminine) that I wouldn't wear make up, why waste the time I figured as I saw my mom and female relatives take half an hour to get ready. Well that whole theory went out the window the moment I hit puberty. I started wanting to wear make-up around the 6th grade, but did not begin actually doing it (beyond lip gloss and nail polish) until I was 14 (so 9th grade).

I work in a store that sells make up and body products and I've noticed over the years that girls are wearing more make up and are younger ages now. A girl came into buy make up and I casually asked how old she was...she was 12 and had more make up then me on!!! I started wearing a little make up in grade 9 and gradually added more and played around with it more as I got older.

I was interested since 8 and wore lip gloss/chapstick. When I was 10, I was using eyeshadow and lip gloss. At 11, I added mascara, and at 13 I started eyeliner. I'm not really the sort who uses foundation, bronzer, blush and all.

I have a friend who's daughter is about to turn 9. All she and her friends do is play with make-up. Shimmer lip gloss and eyeshadow and some blush and glitter in their hair. She loves it and that what she asks for.
