If you work in food you either wear a hairnet or a hat.

If you have facial hair you might also have to wear a facial hair net.

If the health department comes in and see you not wearing it and handeling food the company can be fined and possibly fire you or suppend you for some time.

I've only wore the hat. Never a net.

I haven't had to, but I've worked in places where we SHOULD have. It's a big health concern and I've seen hair in food go out to customers or get baked in pizza, soups, cakes...

It's sanitary to have one. Typically I think the ones who wear them are in the kitchens or behind counters, mostly anyone handling food who is not a waiter/waitress.
