Rock stars like Marilyn Manson, Kiss, Boy George, Alice cooper etc who do wear-make are fairly well accepted as we understand the theatrical nature of the business.
Also drag queens employ make-up to complete the illusion of femaleness. Make-up is applied to actors, and to most anyone appearing in movies and TV.
For the average straight male, however, wearing make-up is a definite turn-off for most straight women because it's a highly feminine device and most women prefer a manly man, especially to marry and have children with.

We talking goth makeup, 80's new wave band makeup (nick rhodes of duran duran comes to mind), or feminine makeup?
Goth - Okay, whatever
80's - VH1 called, they want their favorite era back, please.
Feminine - might not be gay but many people will make that assumption
Keep in mind that anyone spending time in front of a TV camera will probably have to wear makeup as part of the job - television studios are not kind to skin tones.

As someone liberal minded, I'd like to say cool...but...really...I'm not sure. Personally I would not date a guy that wears make-up. I guess I'm more closed minded than I thought.
However, there is a difference between a guy that wears make-up and a guy that takes good care of his skin. That's always more attractive.

Most of the guys that I see wearing make-up are punks. I don't think it is guy-ish to wear make-up, unless the guy wants to be a girl.... NOT COOL.

in the 1980's it was somewhat popular. it seems to be making a revival with the "metro" crowd. the gay community has always had their share of men that wear make up. for the main stream guys, it looks stupid
And I'm with vidra and veronica, it looks great on J Depp, but what doesn't?
