Everyone has to put there sexual preferance in a label and in a brand like Gay, Straight, Bi or Lesbian. Why does it have to be like that? Why can't we just be free from labels and stereotypes?

That is so true. Great point. One's sexual orientation is only one aspect of their life, and more importantly a small part of who they are as people so you're right. Why does it have to be exposed? I'm straight but have nothing against those who aren't but still feel that it shouldnt be this way. These labels are causing so much damage...people's sexual orientations alone are making people lose oppertunities on meeting new people (who could even save their life(s) one day for all we know), getting people killed, turning parents against their own children etc...its not worth all of that.

Its because humans like to simplify everything. Another example is the labels rich and poor to represent financial status. Also, humans tend to adopt an all or nothing approach to thinking - someone can do 10 good things and doing 1 bad thing discounts all the 10 good things they've done and labels them bad.

The concept of dual nationality can be complicated for some to handle. As an English/Italian, I've had some people saying that I'm English and others saying that I'm not English.

Homosexuality and heterosexuality are easy to categorize as they are mutually exclusive. Bisexuality covers a broad spectrum, with gay leaning bi's, 50/50 bi's, and straight leaning bi's.

Recently, someone I know, labelled bisexuals as "queers" - inferring that they are totally gay. This is not true, in the same way that bisexuals aren't straight. I'm a bisexual myself.

Very good question, Triste, and you're absolutely right ... the labels just get in the way.

Some people aren't happy with just being "right", they want everyone else to know what is "right" too. So they have to point fingers at others: labels are a way of doing that.

Kinsey proved that people's sexualities are spread all across the spectrum. But, 50 years later, noone's listening. They'd rather argue and fight over it. When you're mad at someone else, you can forget for a while that you're a s**t too.

Because society feels better with labels. It is human nature to fear what we don't understand. And even though the lgbt community has come up with these labels, we are still misunderstood, hated and feared.

I believe that sexuality is (and should be) a very free flowing thing. The problem with that, is people can't seperate sex and love. The straight community views us as only interested in sex. They don't see us as humans who love and (for the most part) want to be a part of a loving, committed relationship.

I really think it all boils down to fear.

Webster defines sexuality this way:
1. The condition of being characterized and distinguished by sex.
2. Concern with or interest in sexual activity.
3. Sexual character or potency.

That is rather straight forward. We think we
complicate it when we discuss it. It's a preference,
what does it matter what anyone else thinks?
If you, your partner and your maker are okay with it
great!

It's the same way with everything, 30 years ago when my son was born, there were only two kinds of diapers, cloth, that you had to soak, then wash, and pampers, then came luvs, now there's dozens, not to even speak of the 'generic' brands. I don't even know what to buy for my granddaughter, so I just send gift certificates.

Because humans like to put people in little boxes inside their brain, even themselfs. I tried making a new type of box in my brain for every single person I knew and I ended up getting very confused so I switched back. Sorry.

Well, where would the fun be without labels?

I mean, I know when I am going for a girl I definitely want to know she's straight.

no one is free as long as you have government, society and a religion...

no one has to tell another thier sexual preferences.

however to label you... it is right...

she/he is or are gay etc..

is the same as sayingn he/she are black, white, asian ect.

Its just a way of identifing a person no harm..

however if the problem is the other are bigots, racist then there is a problem... and they will be here till the end of times..

so relax and roll with the flow
