Hmmm
I'm from Mississippi and I love it! I'm on the coast. It's great. I don't hunt, nor do I have a southen accent. I've never been 'mudriding'.

Besides...what's your definition of country?

Also, why are you going to hate on your own state? The rest of the country does it enough for us!!

Ah, let's see, Mississippi. If you weren't from there and you only saw or heard what Mississippi was like (all I can think of right now are John Grisham novels/movies), what would you think? Even with the hurricane, it was areas that were "rural" that you saw or heard about for the most part. I live in Kentucky, and sometimes people wonder if we wear shoes. No, of course I don't, and I have a still in the backyard. Whatever! What do you hate about it? Is it because you consider it country, too? There you go, the perception. It's funny, because I've moved away a few times (I'm actually in a city), and I found it wasn't so bad here. I don't know how old you are - I'm guessing you still have college ahead of you - there's a great opportunity to spread your wings.
