I always covered my kids with a receiving blanket from day ONE!!! Those are light enough but not heavy enough to suffocate them.

my baby's slept with a blanket since he was a newborn and has never had a problem. now that hes rolling around in bed (he's 6 months) and its hot out, I've limited the use. But as a newborn, and in thecold winter i had to keep him warm in a blanket and h was just fine. Just make sure its nor a giant fluffy blanket that he could smother himself in, and rest it on the lower half of his body, not around the neck, and he'll be fine

There should never be any loose bedding before the first birthday because of the increased risk of SIDS. Try a zippered blanket sleeper, those work just as well as blankets.

my babies always slept with a blanket. Use a soft light blanket..If you are really scared tuck it into the bottom of the crib or basinette then pull it upon him.Or another trick I saw my aunt do with my boys was to spread the blanket out lay baby on the top half fold the bottom half up on their chests..no way to get it on their face and them laying on it...

you want to keep the blanket a very light blanket.
i highly recommend having him sleep with you - then you can always check on him. obviously, you need to heed pillow as well as blanket precations, but they are far safer with us than in some other part of the cave. they evolved to sleep with us, nursing throughout the night.
is this your first? i remember how nervous I was at every funny breath my first born breathed. :)

I have let my son have a blanket since birth, just tuck it in around him and under his arms. You can ask your
Dr if you don't feel comfortable though, they can tel you for sure when it is safe.

If your child is sleeping with you I think it's okay for him to use a blanket. so you will be there to check it if its over his head. :-)
