Could anyone tell me some biotic and abiotic factors regarding the survival of the clownfish? That's basically the living (biotic) and non-living (abiotic) things that affect the survival of the clownfish. Right now all I can think of are predators. I guess it doesn't have to relate specifically to clownfish because whatever affects the coral reef in general will affect clownfish as well. And if you list what affects them it would be good if you could also say how it affects them, as in what happens. Thanks heaps!

A tall order as so many things affect a species survival!!
Clown-fish individually would influenced by 1. parasites, ie any increase in the number of nematodes etc which affects the fishes fitness can influence the number of eggs layed or whether a female will accept a male as fit enough to mate. 2. Adverse conditions cause by run-off from land, like too much fertilizer which may indirectly affect their anemones survival or through increased turbidity which could also smother the anemone with silt. This could also happen in cyclonic conditions ie increased out-flow from the coastal rivers affecting populations closer to shore. These factors could also affect the eggs ie covered with algae or silt......depends if they lay eggs or live bearing! 3. Any decrease in abundance of their food source.....not sure what they eat!? 4. Fish collecting for the hobby aquarist market.....probably not an issue in Australia?
I'm sure there's thousands more things that influence clown-fish survival but hope this is a starter, a good undergrad ecology book should help some more, I'm a little rusty after all these years.

pollution this and water temp are the main factors in today's world (and yes the reefs health is critical you will find more predators on an unhealthy reef cause the symbiosis is broken)
