Of cousre they pick the players who perform well. Of course you can't make all your shots so it's ok to miss a few shots, just not too many. Just do things to help your team. Grab rebounds, make assists, hit your shots, and defend. Defending is important because a team might not have a need for a lot of scorers, but it always has room for defensive standouts. Do the intangibles, hustling for loose balls, and run up and down the court quickly.

If you still have time before tryouts here are some tips:

See if you can find a place to practice alone and if you can:

1. Shoot, keep shooting, start from close and then extend ur range with each session, whatever you do just keep shooting and make sure you have the right form
2. Practice game and other situations, shoot while falling away, leaning, off the dribble.
3. If you are a post man, work on ur post moves
4. Defense is a big part in tryouts.... condition yourself such as doing suicides and the dot test.
5. Work out, or at least do some cardio workouts, hustle run run run

and during tryouts:

1. Show up Early, 15 mins early.
2. Run like crazy, chase after every ball, rebound, even if you are the smallest guy ont he team.
3. Use your head, see whats happening around you so you can react, dont just run around with no aim, look at where the defenders are, how they are defending you, if your open, take the shot, if not, see what else you can do, pass, create off the dribble... etc...
4. Be one of the last people to leave.

Good Luck

Yeah it's ok if you miss SOME shots, but not a lot. It depends on the talent in your school, my school's (small town) team sucked so bad that we never won a game, I didn't play but I'm sure anybody with relatively good hand eye coordination, and knowledge of the rules could play. But if you're school is great, then you have to be even greater to make the team.

P.S. Next time you ask a question, how about not TyPiNg liKe tHIS. It's annoying isn't it?

Now thats me keepin it real.

ok...first of all good luck. secondly do your best. what all coaches look for is team spirit, cooperation, positive personality, someone who can help others, and who can take constructive criticism, someone who doesn't give up easy and who tries their best. they also look for the actual skills like shots, blocks, guards, jumps, and etc. But the main points really go to the mental skills that i mentioned first. No matter what do your best, and be positive, it's ok to show emotion but don't go overboard. And just be yourself most of all. That's pretty much... keepin it real also.

So what you don't make all the shots, can you play defense? Can you hustle up and down the court...faster than the other girls? Can you do the drills...suicides, push ups, rebounding, etc., better than the other girls? You have to go out there and bust your butt. MAKE them see that you are worthy of being on the team. Practice, practice, practice! Dribbling, rebounding, boxing out, pivoting, switching hands, steals, shooting...practice it all!!! It will pay off for you during tryouts.

Good luck to you!
