I wanna have a short vacation this August, Im thinking whether to go to HongKong or Singapore.I'm not planning to have anyshopping just plain fun and relaxation

Singapore sucks, media censorship, no chewing gum, no more than one political party, government no really democratic, hardly any human rights...
Hong Kong, beautiful gardens, wonderful people, cool buildings, cool everything! Heaps of relaxation to do, visiting temples, and landmarks
now which one would you prefer...
Singapore, country with well, no human rights
or
Hong Kong, a country with at least basic human rights, and wonderful people
But there is the option of going to the Philippines (i hope!)

Hong Kong, Singapore is much smaller. I was in Hong Kong as an exchange student a few years back and all the exchange students from Singapore said Hong Kong is huge in comparison and there are much more things to do. And if you get really bored you can take a train into China.

My personal preference would be to go to Singapore. It has a rich history and is a classic old city of it's region. Beyond that, I understand that it is clean, very orderly, and, relatively speaking, quite safe. And while I would also love to see Hong Kong, another famous old city, I just hate paying my tourist dollars to Communist China, who now controls the place.

Go to Hong Kong. It is more relaxing than Singapore.

I would rather go to Hong Kong since it's more lively. My cousin is in Singapore right now, and there are things to do, but he says it's not as fun.

well it also depends on the duration of your trip. although singapore is small but you can have best of all worlds. perhaps you like to visit http://www.visitsingapore.com/publish/stbportal/en/home.html
its a guide to the attractions, what to do, where to go and what do eat. besides, there may be a language barrier if you go hong kong as most of them speak cantonese. i'm sure you love singapore.

I've been both places even though you are not planning to do any shopping I will suggest you to go to Hongkong because they have more cultural things to see and things are competitive cheaper!

I've been to hongkong, very cool. Singapore isn't supposed to be as nice.
