Get rid of cars with debt on them and buy cars that you can pay cash for. Sell the house and downsize. Get rid of credit cards, you- nor I for that matter can afford to pay the interest.

Start with the lowest debt item you owe on, and hammer that balance until it is paid in full. Then take the same money you were already paying out and add it to the next lowest debt plus the payment you were making, and when it is paid keep doing the pattern and before you know it- FREEDOM!!! I owe a little on a car and home but can stroke a check at any time if needed and pay them off. I was bankrupt in 1985 and learned a lesson in handling debt that I care not to repeat. You can do this.

You may need to call your creditors and make arrangement to make reduced payments until yo can get something paid. It has been 4 yrs since Sept 2002 when you lost your job. Have you been piling up MORE debt? NOT wise. Stop that now, make a change or you will make a change you do not want.

You and the wife MUST buy into the program together as you went into debt together. If you can't pay cash for it then you do not need it. And this is a good thing to remember: do I want it or do I need it? Work off the "I need" list & you'll do well. Forget the "I want" list, you don't need it or you'll stay broke & then divorced. No emotional spending.

Get a 2nd job on the week ends or work in the evenings and apply all of the money from the 2nd job to your debt.
