Where have you been? I won't answer because I see the question
was answered already for you, however I will say that I am proud
of you for taking an interest and trying to learn more about what
is going on in the world. I don't know everything either but I
am trying real hard to not let history repeat itself so to speak. I think
that if we want this "freedom" thing to work we have to know what
we are fighting for on a daily basis and be an active participant .

Secretary Rumsfeld is our current secretary of defense. He is in charge of the
entire United States military establishment.
Colin Powell used to be the Secretary of State (in charge of all of our
diplomatic efforts with other countries) until he stepped down and was
replaced by Condaleeza Rice, the current Secretary of State.
Both were nominated for their posts by George W. Bush, the current
President of the United States and confirmed by the United States
Senate in the usual way.

Colin Powell is a General, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, National Security Advisor and Secretary of State.

Rumsfeld is Secretary of Defense - or - part of the government who started this slide down the garbage heap, regardless of what the ones above me or below me let you believe about what good he has done.
Powell used to be Secretary of State. He got out because bush made him the scapegoat for saying Iraq was buying WMD's and weren't which started a bush war against Iraq. bush needed someone else to kiss his butt (Rice).

*rumsfeld and secretary of defense ... colon powell was former secretary of state under the bush adminstration first term. Rumsfeld is one of the best secretary's of defense we have had.
