I have my grandmothers feather bed. It has been in an attic for 10 years. I would like to use it. It needs a new cover and cleaned.

well I've had a feather bed for over 40 years now and YOU DON"T TAKE THEM to dry cleaner.I really don't know where half these people get their info.
You air them out you can even rub them down with cornstarch to remove dirt and smell. My doesn't smell at all never has.Do it like you'd do an old rug and don't wash it either. You'll never get all the insides dry and if you do half of them will not "fluff"back up.as far as a new cover,if you can't handle that job yourself, then you might as well buy new.

You can buy a Duvet Cover for it to cover it. Of course if the orig cover is ripped you can't take it to the cleaner. That's what you would do with a feather bed. Not much else you can do with it.

Your local dry cleaners should be able to handle the job. They used to do the feather pillows. I'd call around first tho. I'm not sure there's much business in restuffing feather pillows any more!

If you take it to a dry cleaners, be sure that they are going to launder it NOT DRY CLEAN IT!!!!! It is unlikely that they would get all of the fluid out of feathers or down and the fumes can kill you while you sleep. Has been known to happen with down sleeping bags.

Check around your area for a "good" dry cleaner. It may cost an arm and a leg but the memory is worth it!
