No, Balls caught with anything except a glove that is on the players hand or bare hand are not considered an out.

The outfielder could catch it in his ear and as long as it doesn't hit the ground the batter is out. So yes if he caught it in his hat the batter would be out.

No, it is not an out. A player is not allowed to intentionally use any part of his uniform other than his glove to catch a ball. It would be the same as if he unbuttoned his jersey and tried to catch a ball with that. I think it would be ruled a ground rule double.

Almost everyone else is wrong....

NO, it is not an out!

The rulebook contains an obscure but enforced rule that a playr may not catch a ball with a piece of equipment other than his glove. A catcher could not catch a foul ball in his mask, either.

bare-handed or glove catches only ... look it up

Yes, the batter is out because the ball never touched the ground.

The correct answer is NO!!!!!!!!! All of you who responded that it is an out need to look up the rules. An out is recorded when the fielder catches the ball in his glove or bare hand. No hat, helmet or catcher's gear is acceptable.

If the ball is caught before it hits the ground in any way it is called an out. That would be cool though!

No, as stated just prior.. and in addition, no player may use his hat or glove in a manner to deflect the path of the ball, i.e. throw his glove at a ball out of his reach..
