Southern Cal hit 112 today. Great Britain hit their hottest July day in HISTORY this week. St. Louis is recovering from a massive heat wave that hit the city. Just today, they announced that warmer waters are disrupting the food cycles in the Pacific Ocean. How much more proof does anyone need?

Idiot 1st responder - Burning of fossil fuels is the primary cause of global warming. Your only worry about gas should be how we can find ways to stop using it.

Sorry, Richard B, but by drilling into the Arctic ice core, they have been able to determine the temperature and CO2 levels going not back 2,000 years, but 650,000 years. How? By using oxygen isotopes.

Elena - You say the problem is not the right wing, but the energy companies. They are one and the same. What do you think Bush and Cheney were doing before they came to the White House? Who was Bush's biggest donor? Ken Lay, of Enron. The GOP is the politcal party of the energy companies.

So, are there STILL some LEFT-WING IDIOTS out there not wanting Alaska to be drilled for oil?

Most of them hold this belief. You must keep in mind most conservatives are very small minded people that have a hard time realizing human beings have been pumping filth into the air at massive levels for over 200 years. Many of them make believe like 6,000,000,000 people could never affect the earth to the extent the scientists are saying we have because they believe the Earth is way bigger and more invincible than it really is. They are for the most part mentally fifty years behind the rest of the planet. Also many of them believe their god is coming back within the next fifty years so it does'nt really matter how bad we screw up the planet. You cant use facts and evidence to try and convince people who's ideology is based on dogma and ignorance much like the Islamic terrorists. I am not sure what can be done. Perhaps when half the planet is on fire or under water, the morons will decide to do something, but by then, it's too late.

Yep. Why some of these idiots were arguing back in the 70's that global cooling, then being promoted by the ignorant lefties, was a hoax. Some of them have even noticed that Mars is having the same warming trend that we are getting; maybe those Martian SUVs since Al Gore's hot air couldnt have made it that far.
One of the silliest arguments I have heard is that a thousand years ago it was so warm that Vikings were farming Greenland. Don't they know you can hardly grow grass for a few days there now? How can that be? And everyone knows the Vikings drove gas guzzlers and had a terrible power plant emission problem.

yes global warming may exist but it is not caused by SUV's or anything else humans do, that is unless be have outpost on other planets because the temperature is hotter on mars too...when did we send SUV's to Mars???
oh and Al gore has been showing this slide show that says we will be gone in ten years because of global warning,
and he was asked how long he had been showing that slide show because ten years may be shorter since it was made...he said he had been showing it for 30 years which means earth ended 20 years ago....because of global warming...
Global warming is a hoax, ever hear of ozone action days, this is when there is too much ozone and contaminants like gas can not escape from our atmosphere and get trapped close to the earth...(ever see the ripples of fumes across a desert on a sunny day) ozone action days are hot sunny days because ozone needs sunlight, sunlight makes ozone... which is why there is a hole in our ozone layer on the southernmost part of the world, because there is no sunlight there, which is also why there is no one living there...
and as for the ice caps they move which is why they are the thickest they have ever been in some areas. and Ice does not fall into the ocean because it is hot it falls into the ocean because it is too cold and to high it cracks then falls. If it were melting it would be dripping water...
-----------
the official temperature records of the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, that for the years 1998-2005 global average temperature did not increase (there was actually a slight decrease, though not at a rate that differs significantly from zero).

I am not arguing with you that global warming is here, but your evidence
is anecdotal. You are pointing to specific events that may or may not be
due to a general trend.
The increased storm activity may or may not be due to global warming
(I think it is) - but the actual evidence that it is getting warmer is the
vast array of temperatures measured across the planet hour to hour, day
to day, year to year, decade to decade.
Single highs and lows may be as a result of other, more local phenomenon.
For instance, if you drop a bomb, the local weather at the impact point
is likely to be hotter, right? OK, that's extreme - how 'bout there's more
asphault layed out in Los Angeles this year than last. Maybe that might
contribute to it being hotter this year.
Be careful of anecdotal evidence.
As to the actual question - there are idiots out there who are arguing
that global warming is a hoax - but I wouldn't necessarily peg them at
the right wing. Instead, I would peg them at the energy companies
who are desperate to make sure that we keep consuming oil at ever
greater and greater quantities.
The people who would take a severe financial loss if the US were to
change its energy policies are probably the ones most strongly trying
to convince the rest of it that this is a hoax.

THEY are Only doing it all of a sudden ......because Al Gore just released his show/book on Global Warming.
See, if a Democrat released a movie on the Earth NOT being flat, right wingers would suddenly create a talking point that the Earth IS Flat and the lemmings would fall in line repeating it and insulting/threatening anyone who says the earth is not flat.
Thats how they operate.
You suddenly see righties on here fiercely opposing the idea that Global Warming is happening, even as they wipe the sweat off of their foreheads in 125 degree weather AND Rain in Southern California in the middle of summer, while the polar ice melts away.
They are going to "believe" themselves and everyone else into the grave.

If you look at the record highs and lows, we still haven't beat those from past. Maybe the daily high, but not the monthly high. In my area the monthly record high was 108 in 1941, this week the hottest it got was 104. Last summer, we didn't even have a day over 95. There are always fluctuations. I'm sure we are damaging the environment. But I also think that everyone overexaggerates everything, especially the government.
I'm not right-wing, nor left-wing. My stand on issues isn't based on party lines.

Global warming is not the least of our worries. It is real. As for Alaska drilling. Do you actually think this is going to lower the price of a gallon of gasoline now?
We as Americans have shown the market will bear $3 dollar gas and, as we speak, the company that makes gasoline price signs has already shipped ones with the number 4 in the first digit.
So go ahead you right wing idiots, your ignorance of global warming as well as your thirst for fossil fuel exploration will continue to contribute to the effects.

Oh you know, SCIENCE can't prove ANYTHING. I was working the other day, and this woman said "they weren't sure about the global warming thingy." Because Science hurts their brains. No, we don't have electricity, air conditioning, cars, computers, and all of the other modern conveniences because of science. That happened because the genie in the bottle poofed them there. Idiots.
By the way, I live in backwater KS and the heat wave was horrible. The worse heat it's ever been in the summer. And we barely had a winter. This world is changing and we need to acknowledge that yes, we humans are affecting the world.

See... I love the first guy's answer... burying their head in the sand...
You won't have to worry about gas prices if the world is gone dude.
And then there's Jan above me... quoting that it's anecdotal evidence... and saying it's syclical "It was this hot in the 30ths and 40's" ...
Well, Jan... it wasn't this hot then... as a matter of fact, 7 of the last 10 years have been THE HOTTEST ON RECORD...
Anecdotal?
Asthma and pneumonia are up over 200% in major cities among children 3-12.
Anecdotal?
We had MORE major storms last year than ANY OTHER YEAR ON RECORD... and they're calling for a rough one this year
Anecdotal?
Glaciers that have been around for centuries are melting... or gone... the polar ice cap is receding, exposing ice that hasn't seen the light of day in several millenium... and that's cyclical?
Anecdotal?
Get your heads outta the sand, people... and quite being idiots.
No longer do companies sell Suntan Lotion.. they sell sunblock... because people are 10x more likely to burn in the sun than they were 30 years ago...
The MAJORITY of the scientific community say that Global Warming is a real, and present danger to humanity... but ONE person comes along and says "Nope... it's a sham..." then Tens of Millions of people go "See? HE said it's a sham."
Why? Because it's EASIER for us to ignore the problem, than to deal with it... we've become a fat, lazy, arrogant society... happy to lay the present problems of the world on the future generations.
Selfish, ignorant, mindless pricks...
Sigh.

What was the temp in the year 1 AD, 1000 BC, 100,000 BC? Where were the temps taken and by what method? The amount of time mankind as accurately measured temperatures is so insignificant as a proportion to the Earth's age to make any claim of recent Global warming nonsensical.
