what is it called when you take a simple shape(usually a square), manipulate it into an object like a fish or a bird, and then repeat it over and over. MC Escher did a lot of it. I've been trying to remember it for a month.

Eicher did "Wall Paper" designs and then some that sometimes defied logic and sometimes gravity.
The Japanese have an art form of folded paper called "origami."

that is called tesselation. it can be done with triangles, squares, and hexagons.
