The lowest layer of the atmosphere is the troposphere. Above that, there's the stratosphere. Above the stratosphere lies the mesosphere and above that is the thermosphere. Above the thermosphere, in space, there's a layer called ionosphere where satellites are present.

troposphere is where we are and it goes 9-10 miles up i believe but dont quote me on that
