I have the same problem! However, this summer, I forced myself to read a few books (all different subjects, and all by different authors with different styles of writing). This allowed me to figure out what I like to read best. Once you find something you're interested in, it makes reading much more enjoyable.

If you are reading for class, and find the subject matter less than enjoyable, be sure that you are reading while you are distraction-free. Turn off the television/radio/cell phone, and just concentrate. Make it a goal to read a certain number of pages per night, that way you can be sure to have the book finished by your deadline.

First choose a book that will interest you... then see if it is a book on tape/cd.

I fell in love with reading by using the book on tape/cd. I was able to drive and listen to a book being read. Who does not like being read to? After that I started reading in the house bu having the tape/cd play while I followed along in the book. That is great, because you learn so many new words and how to pronounce them.

I agree with megN.
When someone recommends an author to me I go to the libary & c if they have that author,if they do I take it out & read the first 2 chapters.
If after this the book hasen't captured my interest (cant put it down) I take it back.
I am into Stephen King & Dean Koontz as I become so into their books I lose track of time.
Good luck.
P.S. If its school books, try to read with a buddy so u can discuss how boring school books r.

start out with something that is young and interesting even if you're a bit older. i'm a middle school teacher and always recommend to start with a more simple plot. try holes by louis sachar, it's very easy read but lots of fun and it actually does have some symbolism, foreshadowing, deeper meaning IF you WANT to go to a deeper level. and truly, there are books for whatever interests you. what do you like? history? science? quick reads? find historical novels, forensic thrillers, poetry books...good luck!

then i suggest you get books that interest you. Try all genres first then kinda navigate yourself until you get one that really interests you.

Have fun with reading and do be daunted so much with the process itself. Just enjoy it.

You can read anything you want, so read about things you like to do. If you like sports, baseball for example, read about your favorites: Baseball magazines, baseball biographies about your favorite or least favorite players.
Or, say you like Gaming (like my nephew). I would just buy him stacks of gaming magazines. This spurred him to read books about kids who like gaming.
He said he forgot he was reading, when he read anything to do with Games.
