Honestly, can you name three best sellers that go down in history as classics?

"The Old Man and the Sea"

"Of Mice and Men"

"Gone With the Wind"

All three can be considered best sellers, none of them feature main characters as children. There are many, many more, of course...these three just came to me off the top of my head. Granted, you've got a point - I thought of many of the classics I've read (especially ones I had to read in high school), and most all of them do have the protagonist as a child at some point - Huckleberry Finn, To Kill a Mockingbird, Catcher in the
Rye... but still not a general rule.
