After hearing a new word for the first time, it becomes much more noticable. It seems that the word is used everywhere and you wonder why you have never heard it (or at least think you haven't)before. There is a name for this. Does anyone know what this is called?

Actually yes, but you have it a bit wrong.

It is called the Baader-Meinhoff Phenomenon.

This occurs when someone learns something new, and then encounters it again very soon after. Usually, the first encounter is an educational one, the second one is a chance to use said knowledge. This seems to happen all the time in our lives.

It could be a hoax, you may just have not noticed the information around you.
Most disagree with this conspiracy theory, though, having experienced the Baader-Meinhoff Principle many times in their life.

From DamnInteresting:
You may have heard about Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon before. In fact, you probably learned about it for the first time very recently. If not, then you just might hear about it again very soon. Baader-Meinhof is the phenomenon where one happens upon some obscure piece of information– often an unfamiliar word or name– and soon afterwards encounters the same subject again, often repeatedly. Anytime the phrase "That's so weird, I just heard about that the other day" would be appropriate, the utterer is hip-deep in Baader-Meinhof.

In the movie "Repo Man", the phenomanon is describe as "plate of shrimp". You've never thought about a plate of shrimp, you notice a billboard about a plate of shrimp, and suddenly, they're everywhere. I've heard it called selective perception. For instance, you go shopping for a new car. You take a look at the Ford Focus. Then suddenly, everywhere you look on the road there seems to be a bazillion ford focii. The same amount of cars are on the road, but your perceptions just weren't keyed into them before.

Yeah I notice this regularly. And also too when I find a website I like it starts getting popular and talked about (I had this with youtube as an example). I'm not sure of an offical term for it sorry.
