Well, if I divide the 40-gon into 40 triangles all meeting at the center of the 40-gon, then the angle (at the vertex will be) 360/40 = 9 degrees which means that the other two angles in each triangle and each interior angle is 180 - 9 = 171 degrees and since there are 40 such angles, the sum of all 40 of the interior angles is 171*40 = 6840 degrees.
You can also use this (general formula).
The sum of all the interior angles of ANY polygon (it doesn't have to be regular) in degrees is
180 * (n-2) where n is the number of vertices.
Which, of course, gives you the same answer as above.
