I am a hockey goalie and have a chest protector.( you know the one that comes down the chest and stomach and arms etc).
I need to know how to disinfect it and wash it cause it smells really bad after playing hockey.
Thanks

Hand wash it, and squish water and detergent through it. If it's the real compact foam and you can't squish it with your hands, you may have to wash it on your drive way and step on it to squish water through it. Then, make sure you rinse it well, and squish all of the water out of it, and let it dry.

Check your local hockey shops. A lot of them now have a piece of equipment that disinfects your gear. Most only charge 35 bux for a full set of equipment. This process kills all of the bacteria that are causeing the smell. You should get this done at least once a month and make sure you air your gear out. I didn't wash my chest protector and I had a small cut on my elbow that got infected because of the bactiria in the gear and I missed three games because of it. WEll worth the money for the only guarenteed way to kill the bacteria.

Check with any hockey shops. Some offer a washing service for your skates and player equipment, I don't see why they wouldn't offer for goalie equipment. If they don't, they know cleaners that offer the service.

I do mine manually with soap and I let it soak in the water for a whole day. There is some alcohol base cleaners that work awesome for that. And after that, give it a good scrub. For the remaining smell, I use mainly the same product for eliminating the smell inside the shoes. Works wonders!

Good luck!

I found out that pet disinfectant works well since it'll get rid of all the bacteria. Odormute is the one that I found works best. YOu'll have to hand wash your chest protector but I usually scrub down all my gear(except the helmet) 3x a year and it seems to be pretty good.

My rink has the Esporta gear cleaning system, which is endorsed by Walter Gretzky. I wash some of my gear in the washing machine (gloves, elbow pads) and hang them outside, best in bright sun to kill bacteria... but I wouldn't attempt to wash my shoulder pads, shin pads or pants. I'd drop them off at the rink. Really not too expensive given you have to do it at most a couple of times a year.

Well for starters, you should take it out of your bag once you're done. If it stinks it's probably due to leaving it in the bag after you're done playing.

If you want to "wash" it, I would probably have it steamed cleaned somehow at a dry cleaner or something.

Find a company that washes equipment, in my area (Greater Boston) it is Sportswash. I have used Sportswash and it works well. They picked up my bag, washed it, and returned it clean and undamaged.
