**Hugs** I'm sorry to hear about your hamster. Pets bring so much pleasure to our lives and people who say it's 'JUST' a hamster would probably say the same thing about their grandmothers if they died.

It hurts a lot that your little fellow died the way they did.

I've been suicidal in the past - I have a lot of medical problems - and if it wasn't for my pets I would have died a long time ago. Feeling suicidal isn't stupid, but actually doing it can hurt a lot of people. Have you considered writing a journal or talking to someone about how you feel? Maybe even writing a letter to your hamster (I know, it sounds silly) can help you feel better. I light a candle and draw. it doesn't make the pain go away, but it makes me remember how I tried to keep my guys happy :-) .

I'm confused...

Are we discussing whether or not it was stupid of your hamster to kill itself, or are we trying to stop you from killing yourself over the suicide of your hamster?

Because, I think your hamtser was smart for committing suicide. While you may have loved him, he was in captivity. He most likely knew this, and wanted out. Or, there is the slight chance that he was a hamster and did not actually know what he was doing when he ate the rat poison (which, by the way, would have been flavored to make him think it was delicious food).

Now, as it goes for you... it would be stupid to kill yourself over a hamster. His lifespan could have naturally been two years long, he would have stayed in a cage his whole life (except when he was in that scary a$$ ball), and he would have done nothing much to change the world.

You, however, have the chance to do something different. Something to make the world wonder how it survived before you came along. Find something you love, study up on it, and change the way we view it. Make this system better, or better yet: break this system. Forge a new one in your genius.

Always remember the hamster that inspired you to challenge the system and make your life meanignful, instead of trapping yourself in the 'glass cage' of 'questions dealing with purpose'.

Killing yourself is often a, "Permanent solution to a temporary problem" notta good thing! There are exceptions, you're pet dieing is not one of them tho !!!
I am very sorry your pet died & why when you have pets - dogs, rodents, cats... never use ...poisions !!! If your pet accidentally eats poision like rat poision & you catch it soon enough you can use hydrogen peroxide to make them vomit, with a hamster I would say try a tablespoon at a time, till they vomit 3 or 4 times. If you are contemplating suicide over your hampster's death, then you probably really should kill yourself. Most likely, if a hampster's death affected you that deeply, then you're of no use to society.

No, what is stupid is for a pet "hamster" owner to allow it to have access to rat poison or to even use it when you have a pet that is a RAT!
