If you are okay with having her enraged and disappointed that she could not share in or did not know about your special day, go ahead.

I don't know what your relationship with your mom is like, but if it is a good one, you will ruin it by doing this. Why would you want to do that. Is a man really worth destroying your relationship with your mom if she is a good person?

How old are you? Why would you want to do this? Does she know the guy? If so, doesn't she like him? If she doesn't know him, then why not? Marriages done in secret start off on the wrong foot. It's like you're trying to keep your family out of what's supposed to be one of the happiest days of your life! I would really think about this for awhile and try to figure out why you want to do this. It could cause some really hurt feelings. If you know that you'd be doing this just to spite her, then don't do it. If she knows the guy and has treated him badly, then I might be able to understand. Good moms worry about their kids making the right (or wrong!) decisions. If she's given you two a hard time, then why? Moms sometimes have a feeling about a guy, like a sixth sense. If there's somebody you can talk this over with besides going on Yahoo Answers, then I'd do that.

Shoot, if I started dating next month w/o letting my mom know first......
You should tell her. Unless this is The Guy of you dreams and she doesn't want you to marry him. Run it by her slyly and see how she handles it. Just like "Hey, Ma, Im thinking about marrying this guy" if she blows up in your face you can still say you told her. Really think about it though, imagine not being part of your own daughter's wedding.....

Yes go to vegas and get married by an Elvis impersonator. Then go on the big shot ride at the top of the stratosphere hotel in yoiur wedding dress. With any luck everyone from vegas to california will be able to see your panties. What fun!

Seriously though, NO
The answer is no

Oh sure! That will get you in good terms with your mom. Hope you got some money in the bank and are self sufficient, because as a mother, I can get pretty pissed, and when my daughter gets married without telling me, she better be ready to handle life on her own.

plz don't do this to yourself and to the person that loves you more than anyone that knows you. you are part of her body and soul. plz, you owe her this much, she's dreamed of this moment (large or tiny) since holding you in her arms as a new born. don't take that away from her.

btw, my son did this to me too. before he left for the service, he married in secret in las vegas. they keep telling the family that they plan on having a wedding in may '07. i found out by accident and it felt like someone had socked me in the stomach. and we're close, but you guys don't think ahead or are sooooo wrapped up in your love and excitement that you forget the bigger picture and become very selfish for awhile, so think this over very carefully hun. good luck to all involved.

Why would not want to let your mother know?? Are you two not that close. That is a special time in your life. I wouldnt dream of my mother not being at my wedding!! Also think of this. Would she be hurt if you didnt let her know?? How would you feel if your own child did that to you? But it also depends on the kind of relationship you and your mother have.

Tell her first. OR at least drop a hint. And if you must get married without telling her, your explanation: "Sorry mom, he proposed and I said yes and it all happened so fast" or something along those lines.

If you think she's going to cause you problems and disrupt the marriage ceremony, then I wouldn't tell. But if you two get along and she likes your fiance, then why would you keep it a secret?

My brother did that. He was married a full week before he told any of us. We were hurt, but then again, it was hard to blame him since no one liked his fiance anyway.
