Boy, I wish you guys would write in complete sentences.

Do you want to back up files you created or the program, Windows? To backup files, you need a CD/RW drive. I have a Samsung burner. To backup files on a CD, you need a CD/RW and it needs to be formatted with Nero (the software which runs the burner). The files can be read on another computer if you download Nero's "Easywrite Writer." I haven't tried this because I have two computers of the same make so the files are easily transportable. I have a CD/RW drive on a Dell, also, but it uses a different software called DLA.

If you just want to backup your files, pick up a flashdrive. Prices have really come down. I take files back and forth to work all the time and have a couple flashdrives for backups. If your computer is older and you have a floppy drive, all you need are some floppies, if you can find them.

Either burn them manually to a cd or dvd, or use the backup utility that comes with windows, which is located at Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Backup.

You need a removable media, not cd's/dvd's, such as another hard drive [internal or external] or a flash drive with sufficient capacity for the windows backup utility.

best thing would be a CD or DVD writer. you can make multiple backup copies, real cheap. The writers are only $50-60. Otherwise there are on-line backup services, or you could buy 3,927 floppy disks and sit there for days copying files and swapping and labeling disks.
