w = 8 cm
L = 18 cm
Like this:
#1 2L + 2W = 52cm
#1A L + W = 26cm
#2 L = 2W +2
#3 from #1A L = 26 - W
plug #3 into #2 for L
26 - w = 2W + 2
3W = 24
W = 8
plug w back into #2
and get L = 18
voila!

L=2w+2
2(2w+2)+2w=52
4w+4+2w=52
6w=48
w=8
L=8*2+2=18
18+18+8+8=52

Perimeter Equation.
P = 2L + 2W
Information from the above statement
L = 2x + 2
2 cm more than 2 times (2x) the width
W = 2x
The width equals 2x
P = 52
Insert the above information into the Perimeter equation
P = 2L + 2W
52 = 2(2x + 2) + 2(2x)
52 = 4x + 4 + 4x
right side of the equation. the distribute property 2(2x +2) =4x + 4
50 = 4x + 4 + 4x
-4 -4
subtract 4 from both sides
48 = 4x + 4x
48 = 8x
right side of the equation collecting like terms 4x + 4x = 8x
48/8 = 8x/8
divide 8 from bothsides
6 = x

Check for Length
L = 2x + 2
L = 2(6) + 2
L = 12 + 2
L = 14

Check for width
W = 2x
W = 2(6)
W = 12

Insert the lenght 14 and width 12 into the perimeter equation:
P = 2L + 2W
52 = 2(14) + 2(12)
52= 28 + 24
52 = 52
The Perimeter length is 28 cm and the width is 24cm.

If P is Perimeter then:
L-2=2W
L = 2W+2
52 = 2W + 4W + 4
48 = 6W
W = 8
L = 18
