I'm going to be a freshman in college next year, at a fairly large university. I have the plus side of being a roommate with one of my friends, and about 3 hours from home. Just wondering if anyone has any tips to make my freshman year a bit easier to get through?

go to class, study well (so you don't have to repeat classes) and get your sleep. Don't let anyone kid you, you are going to make friends and will get to know people you would have never talked to high school. That's what is so awesome about college, the friendships made. Don't ever judge someone you meet by how they look, you may meet your future best friend! Have fun at the parties, go with friends, be careful and get your own drinks. You CAN go to college, have a good experience and go to parties. Just be cautious and don't over do it. Don't EVER drink something that is just handed to you. Join some groups that you will be interested, you'll meet people who like some of the same things you do! Have fun!!!

Sleep as much as possible. As crappy as it is, study your butt off. Be open and honest with your friend/roommate because chances are, it's going to be horrible living with her. You should never live with your friend. Go to all your classes... be active in groups whether they're academic or not. My school has an interhall council so if your school has something similar you can do that, you organize stuff within the dorms. Try to get an on-campus job so you have extra money. If you have ANY form of transportation to leave campus, shop at a real grocery store, food on campus is more expensive. Keep your space clean. Eat healthy so you don't get sick. Keep in contact with your parents. Good luck hun. You're going to have a blast.

Hi, I listed links to three websites. One gives a point by point comparison of the differences between high school and college and gives you a very good idea of what to expect. The next one give you study techniques for success. The last link is a check list to equip and ready you to meet the many academic, social, and emotional demands of college. Best wishes.

Make sure you go to class and get enough sleep! May seem like a given to go to class, but skipping is an easy habit to get into and hard to get out of.

Take it one day at a time, don't overload yourself with commitments to groups, friends, etc......and make sure you keep a calendar or schedule book with you at all times....you'll definitely need it! Good luck!
