If I have Excel on my desktop can I run it from my laptop that does not have Excel. How do I create a network on my desktop where I have access to all the desktop applications ?

yes it is possible between the laptop and the desktop with a cross wired net work cable but your best bet is to buy a 5 port router and hook the two computers to the router useing network cables and then on each computer add file sharing in the to all the file you want to share on both computers and reboot that should be that

You cannot.

You can use remote access to get into the other system but you will be working on the desktop. The files will be stored on the desktop too.
