It was built to commemorate napoleans birthday.
The Eiffel tower is not finished yet as it was to be frances first space rocket but they ran out of tin foil.

Mom2all is right. They were supposed to tear it down in 1909 but with the winds of WWI in the air it was kept up to use as a radio tower. I went up in it in 2000, the gearing and cables system looked and sounded creaky to me.

well i think it was supposed to b a radio tower in like ww1 or ww2 i cant remember which war... i didnt know it was really a special occasion
